# Bug scan

> Point Peeps at a URL and an AI agent crawls your app in a real browser, finding broken links, console and API errors, accessibility problems, typos, visual issues and slow pages.

Bug scan finds bugs without any test cases. You give Peeps a URL, and an AI agent opens your app in a real browser, moves from page to page, and checks each one for problems. When it finishes, every bug it found is listed on the **Bugs** page with a severity, the page it was on, and evidence: a screenshot, the moment in the scan's video recording, and the console or network data behind it.

## What a scan checks

On every page it visits, the agent takes a snapshot of the page text, a screenshot, the browser console, and the network requests. It also runs an automated accessibility audit. From those it reports nine kinds of bug:

| Type | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Spelling** | A misspelled word in the page text |
| **Grammar** | A grammatical error in the page text |
| **Console error** | A JavaScript error or warning in the browser console |
| **Broken link** | A link that leads to an error page, such as a 404 |
| **Broken image** | An image that fails to load |
| **Visual issue** | A broken layout: overlapping elements, cut-off text, or misaligned components |
| **Accessibility** | A violation found by the accessibility audit, such as a button with no accessible name |
| **Slow page load** | A page that loads slowly, judged by its load time, time to first byte, and first contentful paint |
| **API error** | A request from the page that returns a 4xx or 5xx response |

The agent explores breadth-first and doesn't revisit pages it has already checked. It reports real bugs only, not suggestions or style preferences.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The accessibility audit uses [axe-core](https://github.com/dequelabs/axe-core), which the agent loads into each page from `cdnjs.cloudflare.com`. If your app's Content Security Policy blocks that domain, the scan can't run the audit and won't report accessibility bugs.

## Severity

Each bug gets one of four severities:

| Severity | Typical bugs |
| - | - |
| **critical** | Broken functionality, data loss, security issues, crashes |
| **high** | Broken links and images, severe accessibility violations, API 5xx errors |
| **medium** | Spelling and grammar errors, minor visual issues, accessibility warnings, pages that take over 3 seconds to load |
| **low** | Minor visual inconsistencies, informational console warnings |

## How long a scan takes

Most scans finish in a few minutes. A scan stops after 15 minutes at most. As it nears the limit, the agent stops exploring and writes up what it has found so far, so you still get a report.

Only one scan can run in a project at a time. To start another, wait for the current one to finish or cancel it.

## Who can use it

| Role | What they can do |
| - | - |
| **Owner**, **Admin**, **Contributor** | Start and cancel scans, mark bugs fixed or dismissed, and create and manage schedules |
| **Member** | View scans, bugs, screenshots and recordings |

> Bug scan works on web projects. If you don't see **Bugs** in the sidebar, Bug scan isn't turned on for your organization yet. [Get in touch](mailto:support@peepsai.com) to request access.
